(Shadow of the Trees) Head Teacher: Mrs Janeece Scott
The Gumbari Facility provides Individual Education Programs for students at risk of leaving school due to challenging behaviours, that require the cirriculum being delivered through alternative programs. The staff of the facility will assist students in modifying their behaviours, improving their academic skills and accessing vocational education programs. The facility will offer innovative and exciting life skills activities for students who comply with behaviour intervention strategies.
Staff in Gumbari, are in the business of building relationships, keeping students safe and helping them cope with the many challenges they face day to day, although academic results are not paramount but really an added bonus within the unit. Teaching staff have produced alternate teaching programs to assist with meeting the various needs of our students and make use of the environment and community in which we live.
Gumbari staff are being rewarded by the higher rate of attendance and student engagement, less volatile behaviours and a warm camaraderie between staff and students which will hopefully continue to grow and nurture those students within the unit.
Thanks must go out to community members/clubs who welcome the opportunity to help us in our endeavours. These busnesses along with their staff have always been friendly and helpful despite our student's large, loud, and colourful personalities.
